Soul Tree Union write and perform beautiful songs
STU 1 (3).jpg

Paully Rivers and Kate Marian Rose, have joined their voices, musical talents and songful hearts to create Soul Tree Union’s delicious sounds.

The musicians first met in the Noosa Hinterland town of Cooran playing cover songs with local band The Catbirds.  Their vocal chemistry was thrilling from the start and after a time that chemistry became the stuff of a grand romance- the pair went from Catbirds to lovebirds.

Featuring dual lead vocals that soar and weave together melodic storytelling and natural harmonies, Soul Tree Union’s sound has been described as “intimate and captivating”.  Kate’s voice rings out like a bell and when Paul takes to the microphone it leaves audiences wanting more.

The duo tailor their sound to suit the venue and crowd- from ambient dinners, weddings, house concerts, art galleries and book shops to festivals, community events, pubs and live music venues.

Soul Tree Union create their music amidst the sounds and sights of the beautiful Noosa Hinterland and the Gympie surrounds and will travel it anywhere!

We would love to play ....

Launching their music duo in 2019,

KATE 2.jpg

Kate cut her musical baby teeth playing cafes and pubs in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley as a teenager, before moving to regional Queensland where she continued to perform and develop her craft as a singer-songwriter.

Kate is a WOMAN OF SONG ...

Cutting her musical teeth as a finalist in the 2002 ‘Queensland Rock Awards’ and taking the gong for ‘Best Original Song’, a move to rural Queensland to raise her children in the country has afforded her two decades of experience in regional performance and community arts.

A spirited supporter of fundraisers and local events, Kate has also enjoyed performing for larger crowds with highlights including Brisbane’s EKKA, Townsville Folk Festival, Woodford’s Festival of Small Halls, Heartland Festival, Noosa Wine and Cheese, Mundubbera Blueberry Jam Sesh supporting Russell Morris and Gympie’s Heart of Gold International Film Festival and connecting with audiences in iconic spaces such as Brisbane’s The Tivoli, the Majestic Theatre in Pomona, Noosa’s ‘The J’ and Cooroy’s Butter Factory Arts Centre.

With her renowned penchant for storytelling, Kate continues to captivate with a special brand of “folky dreamy pop” (Time Off) performing solo with her trusty Maton 808 and 6 chords.

Her style has been described by her mates as “Angie Hart meets Stevie Nicks meets Martha Wainwright”; a stage presence that is warm, joyfully versatile, and confessional and delivering songs that are dimensional and thought-provoking with flourishes of optimism and wit.

… and a skilled writer whose music is raw and authentic, weaving together stark prose, poetry, and heartfelt melodies; a performer described by fellow musicians as “expressive”, “uplifting” , “from the heart” and “with velvet tones”.

Having  a soft spot for a listening audience and transforming quirky spaces into intimate pop-up music venues, Kate is busy producing eclectic live performances with a focus on collaboration, community connection and supporting emerging artists.

Her debut album ‘Window in the Sky’ was released in 2009 and Soul Tree Union is set to launch their first album in 2024 with singles already available from all the streaming platforms.

Paul is a Gympie lad who began fronting rock bands before he was old enough to drive himself to gigs and is multi-talented as a vocalist, songwriter, and rocking out on guitar, keys, percussion and drums.

Paully loved being the front man for pub rock bands belting out rock classics to appreciative audiences.  For over a decade he spent his youth dragging the PA system around in his dad’s horse float being towed by a hot road Ford.  Denim-clad and rocking the mullet, Paul had a reputation for his ability to sing songs with a hard vocal edge and engaging the crowd with his wit and stage antics.

Gympie town was his stomping ground and he got around with his guitar, playing gunslinger tunes, and exploring old-school American country songs that would have his audiences singing along.
Drums came next.  “I fell madly in love with drums and fitting grooves into the music being made with my muso mates”.
Being the singing drummer in a covers band led him to his dream girl.  After hearing Kate sing her original songs, he could vision that they could make beautiful music together.
A whole new channel of expression opened up for Paul as he began penning the songs that would become the original music of their duo, Soul Tree Union.

Paul says he gets inspiration for his original lyrics sitting on the back steps surrounded by the delights of nature and all the universe has to offer

" 'Tin Can Sands' is an ode to the early days of our love story.  I first performed this song on the steps of the Cooran Memorial Arts hall as a surprise for Paully and later created this sweet imagery as a birthday gift...and because love is so good"
